chairman`s letter 2026
Dear Members
Welcome to another exciting programme of lectures and events at The Arts Society Sherborne !
This year, as always, we have a varied and interesting programme of lectures to look forward to, ranging from Tom Flynn’s ‘Art Crime in the Cinema’ to Imogen Corrigan’s ‘Crowds and Clouds of Angels’ in December and taking in Hockney, Brueghel and The Newlyn School along the way.
We also have number of Study Days and Trips, starting with Kirsty Hartsiotis on ‘The Arts & Crafts Movement in Cotswold Churches’, followed by Jenny Newman’s tour of Cardiff in May and a trip to the Watts Gallery in July. If you haven’t been to one of our Study Days or trips, I can highly recommend them.
Don’t forget that there are also social events to attend. I like to think that we are a very friendly and welcoming Society and it is good sometimes to meet outside the constraints of the lecture hall, to talk – and drink – with old acquaintances and, hopefully, make some new ones ! This year’s big event will be a party in June, the details of which will be confirmed on the website.
Finally, I would like to welcome any new members who have joined over the last year. I hope you will enjoy the programme as much as I am sure I will and that perhaps you will want to get more involved in the Society, either by attending study days or social events, or by volunteering in some capacity. But, above all, know that you are truly welcome and we would love you to invite your friends !
With Best Wishes,
Richard Dankwerts (Chairman)
